OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board, held on Thursday, was attended by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mrs Macdonald, Messrs Hancock, Morgan, Scurr, Dove, M'Lennan, Quelch, and Dr Newlonds. On an apology being offered for the absence of Mrs Jackson, who is reported to be in bad health, Mrs Macdonald moved that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mrs Jackson regretting £er illness. It was resolved to express sympathy with Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., in connection with the recent death of his mother. The Director-general of Health wrote intimating that the appointment of Mr Duncan M'Lennan as a member of the board had been approved by the GovernorGeneral.—Received. The Director-General of Health also wrote intimating the Minister’s approval of the appointment of Dr J. N. Clark as assistant medical officer. Dr Fossey as house sUtgeon. Dr A. Bruce Roy as Jion. medical officer, Port Chalmers Hospital, and Miss Reilly as matron of the Louisa Roberts H ospital.—Recei ved. Thanks from T. Cope, H. Barman, Mrs Cunningham, 11. Howes, and E. G. Bell for menical assistance were received.

The Medical Superintendent forwarded applications from tne porters’ staff for a increase in salary.—An increase of 2s 6d per week was granted in three cases. The Medical Superintendent forwarded the resignations of Drs North and Kendrick. —Received; the Hospital Committee to act in regard to them. ♦ In connection with the first clause of the Hospital Committee’s report recommending that the grant of the University Council for work done in the bacteriological and pathological laboratories, Dunedin Hospital, be increased to the rate of £IOOO per annum from April 1, 1926, provided that no further application was made and the University Council was satisfied with same for a period of not, less than three years, the hoard decided to refer the clause back to the committee.

Tho Manager of the Benevolent Institution wrote stating that Miss Joan Boot, who had visited the institution, had offered to install three electric radiators and two skylights for the benefit of the inmates. Tho board accepted the offer with thanks. The board, in committee, considered proposed by-laws for the medical superintendent, the senior resident medical officer (A.M.0.). and the hon medical staff. It was agreed that tho next meeting of the board be held on December 17.
