RED CROSS SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society, held on tne 23rd, was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (chairman), Mrs George Roberts, Miss Williams, Miss Rattray, Miss Graham, and Messrs U. B. Smith and E. A. Rosevear.

A letter was reeeivod from ihe Otago Hospital Board conveying thanks for fruit, tobacco, end underclothing supplied to the soldier patients at the Wakari Hospital. The Invercargill Red Cross Society forwarclod a cheque reimbursing the Otago Centre for its outlay in regard to two Southland with thanks. The Secretary reported that accommodation for delegates from Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland had been arranged by Mr Bnnon, accommodation organiser.— Left with secretary to furnish general information to the delegates on arrival. A report from Sister Webster, Red Cross nurse, showed that activities in Taranaki were well maintained. Clothes and food had been supplied in a numer of necessitous cases.

Mr Rosevear reported that the peace time division of the Wellington Centre had a stall attached to the section reserved by the Department of Health at the Exhibiion. Several members had met Sister J. E Lewis, who had fitted the stall up very effectively with Junior Red Cross posters. Dr Yalintine, Director-general of Health, had been so impressed with the Junior Red Cross work that he had made a special request for the display. The Otago Joint Peace Council was hoping that it w r ould bo able soon to establish the Junior ReJ Cross movement here.

Headquarters forwarded a copy of a letter from the Health Department, m which the department invited the Red Cross to consider tne question of co-operation in the matter of health visitors. Copies of letters were received in reference to international relief, and the matter of a con tribution to the International Nurses’ Home, London.—These matters will be fully discussed at the conference.

In regard to the entertainment of delegates it was decided that, in addition to other arrangements made, the visitors would be entertained at luncheon at the Savoy to-morrow. Arrangements for cars for a motor drive were left in the hands of Miss Williams.

Mrs Roberts reported that the Dunedin and Wakari Hospitals had been regularly visited, and comforts dispensed to the soldier patients. The Matron at. Montecillo reported that during the month four patients had been admitted and two discharged. There were at present 14 patients in the home. A number of acceptable gifts had been received on behalf of the patients. Everything at the home was working smoothly. Miss Williams, for the Montecillo Committee, confirmed the matron’s report. The home would be closed from December 23 to January 25. A little renovating was required. tnd this matter would bo to at that time. In regard to patients travelling it was left to the secretary to arrange with the Pensions uepartmem. A saisfactory financial statement was submitted, and on.the motion of Mr Rosevear, seconded by Miss Rattray, the report was adopted, and accounts certified by treasurers passed for payment. As this was the last meeting of the year, the Chairman said that he wished every member happiness and blessing. He appreciated most sincerely their loyalty to him as president, and their whole-hearted service to the Red Cross throughout the year.
