Rural deliveries have expanded from 8700 in 1921 to over 13,000 last year. 273 being in operation (says the annual report of the Post and Telegraph Department). Tho growth of this system is particularly noticeable in Canterbury, where the majority of settlers get daily delivery, 843 miles of rural delivery having been established. This enables 51 post offices to be closod.
