ELECTION RECOUNT.

WELLINGTON, May 8. In the recount of the municipal poll Mr Robert Semple (l abour) gained 787 voted which moved him up three places, thus gaining a seat and displacing Mr For* sytb, who was originally a candidate for the Mayoralty, but who, after some discussion, stood down in favour of Mr C. J. B. (Norwood, the latter beating the Labour nominee, Mr Chapman, for the Mayoralty. The result of the recount has created a mild sensation The returning officer explains that many of the results on election night came through on the telephono, and owing to the noise mistakes were inevitable Labour has now three seats on the council.
