DUNEDIN HOSPITAL.

APPOINTMENT OF MATRON. At a special meeting of the Otago Hospital Board on Thursday afternoon Miss Edith P. Tennent, assistant matron of the Wellington Hospital, was appointed matron of tho Dunedin Hospital. There were six applicants for the position. The meeting was attended by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman) and Messrs Hancock, Scurr, Morgan, Quelch. and I>r Newlands. and Mesdames Macfie, Macdonald, and Jackson. The applications were considered in committee. Miss Tennent, who is 42 years of age, has occupied the position of assistant matron of the Wellington Hospital for tho past four years. She entered the Wellington Hospital' for training in August, 1915, and passed the State Registration Examination in January, 1919, wne nslio secured first place in New Zealand. Miss Tennent was promoted to tho rank of sister in 1919, and during her term in that position sho was in charge of the children’s surgical ward, the main operating theatre, and the fever hospital. In May. 1922, Miss Tennent was grunted six months’ leave of absence in order to undergo midwifery training at the Alexandra Home, and she passed the State examination in midwifery in the following December, when she was first equal for New Zealand. Miss Tennent was promoted to the portion of assistant matron of the Wellington Hospital on November 18, 1920, a position which she has occupied up to the present time.
