THE HON. DOWNIE STEWART.

VISIT TO AMERICA. (From Ocr Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, January 21. It has now been definitely arranged that the lion. W. Downio Stewart, will leave New Zealand for New York in the Rimutaka, sailing from Auckland on January 29. Mr Stewart is making the trip primarily for health reasons. He is still making progress towards recovery, and is quite able satisfactorily to fulfil all his Ministerial duties, but in view of the strenuous session ahead and the prospect of a ham-fought election immediately afterwards, he is desirous of taking any opportunity offering that may bo availed of in regard to the most up-to-date treatment by a visit to a New York clinic which has proved remarkably successful in dealing with eases of arthritis. . He has a chance of further improvement in health. Mr Stewart hopes also, if opportunity offers, to visit Canada with a view to discussing questions relating to tariff matters between Canada and New Zealand. It is understood that Mr Stewart’s visit to America is prompted by the desire of his colleagues tnafc no should lose no possible chance that might leud to a further improvement in his physienl condition, and perhaps eveq to complete recovery.
