The post-sectional play in the Rigks Championship opened in brilliant weather today. The first round only was played. For the President’s Day function there was a very large attendance at the Wellington Club’s green. The semi-final and final of the Championship Puns were played, and also the North Island and South Island tourney. In the Pairs semi-final Rigby and Tonkin (North-East Valley) defeated Dey and Ainger (New Brighton) by 18 to 14. In tho early stages of the match Tonkin consistently held the stronger hand, and was 16 to his opponents’ six on the 14th head. Ainger and his partner then appeared to woke up, and the leaders seemed to lose touch. Ainger continued aggressive, and on the 20th head was only three points down —Tonkin 17, Ainger 14. Ainger still persisted in a strong effort to win the game. He had to secure three points for a tie or four to win. On four occasions when tho position was unfavourable to him ho “burnt” the head. In the end, however, New Brighton had to submit to the inevitable. Tonkin drew the shot with his third bowl, and Ainger was unable to disturb the head. Tonkin thus won on the 21st head. The final was between Davis and Sexton (Newtown). Sexton being a substitute for Wylie, and Rigby and Tonkin (N.E. Valley). A most interesting and hard-feught contest resulted. Sexton had all the better at the start, scoring four, two, and four respectively on the first, second, and fourth heads, as against Tonkin’s one on the third. On the fifth head the game stood Sexton 12, Tonkin 2. The latter got two on the seventh and one on tho eighth heads, making the score Sexton 15, Tonkin 5. but thence onward Tonkin improved his position almost at every head, and at the close of the 17th the score stood Sexton 18. Tonkin 15. Sexton scored two on the next head, and Tonkin three on the 19th, but on the 20th Sexton also scored three, making the game Sexton 23, Tonkin 18. Sexton lay one on the 21st head, but Tonkin drove and burnt the head. On the replay Sexton scored two, and the game thus ended: Sexton 25, Tonkin 18. The big bank of spectators gave hearty cheers for the winners and the runners-up, and tho dominion president afterwards presented the trophy. The North v. South tourney was won bv the South Island bv the narrow margin of one point, the scores being: South Island 213, North 212. January 25. Fine weather again favoured the Dominion Bowling Tournament at Wellington on Saturday when the second, third, and fourth rounds in the Dominion Rinks Championship were played. The results were as follow: Second Round.—Fastier (St. Clair) 22, Powell (Wellington) 15; Brackenridge (Newtown) 25, Walker (Auckland) 13; Brighting (Hataitai) 23, Tilley (Wanganui) 16; H. Smart (New Plymouth) 25, Efford (Edgeware) 14; Stewart (Dunedin) 27, Fairway (Wellington) 8; A. Smart (New Plymouth) 19, Pilkington (Hamilton) 14; Howarth (Canterbury) 21, Wylie (Newtown) 20; E. J. Third Round.—A. Smart 18, Howarth 15; Stewart 15, Brightling 12; H. Smart 27, Fastier 12; Kilgour 23, Pollock 15; Bremner 24, Powell 16; Walker 20. Priddle 13; Hill 24, Tilley 12; Pilkington 32, Wylie 5; Chegwin 29, Fairway 27; Dee 16, Brackenridge 15. Fourth Round.. —Fastier 20, Brackenndge 19; Brighting 2.4. Efford 18; Hill 18. Dee 13; Pilkington 18. Howarth 16; A. Smart 20, Kilgour 15; Walker 19, Chegwin 17; Stewart 18, 11. Smart 15; Rremner a bye. In the fourth round great interest was aroused by the games between Fastier (St. Clair) and Brackenridge (Newtown), and Walker (Auckland) and Chegwin (Beckenham). Brackenridge, who had only one “life” left, required four to tie on the twentieth head, and got it. The twentyfiisfc head naturally was very closely contested, and the result was in doubt to the very end. Fastier drawing the shot with his final bowl, thus winning by one point. Chegwin wanted one to tie or two to win on the last head. Walker’s team lay shot, and Chegwin drew into first position, but Walker came through and took the kitty and stayed by it. Chegwin again tried to draw the shot, but went wide, leaving Walker the winner by two points—l 9to 17. The draw for the fifth round is as under: A. Smart, (New Plymouth) r. Stewart (Dunedin) ; H. Smart (Now Plymouth) v. J 5. J. Hill (Wellington); Walker (Auckland) v. Fastier (St.. Clair); Brighting (Hataitai) v. Bremner (West End); Pilkington (Hamilton) a bye. The fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds will he played to-morrow. Tt is hoped to reach finality on Tuesday or Wednesday. DUNEDIN BOWLING CENTRE. The monthly meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Bowling Centre was held on the 19th, when Mr A. M‘Kenxie occupied the chair. It was agreed to play a match against a visiting Central Otago team between February 16 and 21. The Christchurch Centre wrote agreeing to the date suggested for the interprovincial match —namely, February 19. It was decided to invite the South Otago Centre to send a team of eight rinks to play the Dunodin Centre any day in the week not before March 14. Mr Jacobsen moved that the following remit be forwarded to the Dominion Bowling Association: “That this centre views with alarm the number of table tested bowls now in use that do not conform to the green test and that, the green test being the official test of the Dominion Bowling Association, the official stamp be prohibited for other methods of testing.” Mr Wright seconded the motion, which was carried.
