FIRES.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. The bacon factory and cool store of L. C. W alker (Ltd.), in the suburb of Bromley, were destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The damage is estimated at £7OOO, and the insurances total £4OOO. The brigade was powerless to save the buildings, as the district has not water reticulation. BLAZE AT lIORORATA. CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. On Saturday afternoon the large twostoreyed residence of Air H. AJ. Reeves at Hororata was destroyed by fire. At the time Air and Airs Reeves were attending the Hunt Club races in Christchurch, and returned to find only the chimneys standing of their well-appointed home. Some furni* ture was saved, this being due to the effort# of the spectators of a football match which happened to be in progress at the time of the fire. The servants were away at the time. When the alarm was given the fire had a big hold. The building was insured for £2500 and the furniture for £SOO, both in the Ocean Accident Office. BLAZE AT NAPIER. NAPIER, August 8. A 14-roomed residence belonging to Air T. E. Lindsay, situated across the river harbour from Napier, was Completely destroyed by fire early this morning, the inmates having to escape in their night attire. The building, which cost £9OOO four years ago, was insured for £6OOO in the Union Assurance Office. THREE MOTOR CARS DAMAGED. WELLINGTON, August 8. At 1 o'clock this morning a motor garage occupied by Air J. Brewer and a boot shop occupied by Air J. Black, in Torv street, both owned by the lion. T. \V. Hislop, were badly damaged by fire. Three motor cars were also damaged. The building is insured for £3500 in the South British office. There was no insurance on the contents.
