SIR WALTER BUCHANAN.
IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL SERVICE.

Although the weather was bitterly cold nnu stormy the largest number of people e\ er gathered in this district assembled to accord the last honour to a deceased fellow settler at the Clareville Cemetery at noon to-day, where the interment of the late Sir YY alter Buchanan took place. Ihe main cortege started at the late residence of the deceased in Lansdowne (Masterton), and was joinJa all along the road by units from outlying places, while very many more from the neighbourhood of Carterton, Greytown, Featherston, Martinborough, and Lower Valley, with which portion of the district Sir Walter Buchanan had been more closely associated during tiie greater portion of his life, met and joined in the procession at the Clareville coiner. A special train from Wellington brought lue Prime Minister and other members of the Cabinet, members of both Houses of Parliament, and prominent Wellington citizens. Immediately following the hearse were Mr Massey, the Hon. A. D. M’Leod, M.P.tor Wairarapa, and members of the Cabinet, the Mayors of all the Wairarapa boroughs, the chairmen of all the local bodies, and over 100 cars, vehicles, and cycles. In the presence of a great concourse of people the remains of the late Sir Walter Buchanan, who had so strenuously, usefully, and gallantly fought the battle of life, were reverently laid to rest. The Presbyterian funeral service was impressively carried through by the Rev. G. King, of the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. J. Davie, of Knox Church, Masterton.
