A recent mysterious mishap was explained in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne a few days ago. A young lady was standing at the cemetery gate when a bullet struck her on the chest, but did not seriously injure her. At tiie court a young man was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon for having discharged a firearm to the danger of passersby. It was stated by Detective M'Leod that the accused, in company with other young men, had gone hare shooting with a 303 service rifle. After spending some time on the hills they went down to the flats and fired two shots at a hare. A spent bullet ncochetting from a tree struck the young lady, but fortunately without serious injury.
