LONG BAY TRAGEDY

MURDER SUSPECTED. SYDNEY, May 13. The naked body of a woman, which so far has not been identified, was discovered in the scrub at Long Bay. The clothing was found in different parts of the bush nearby. There were also signs of a struggle. May 14. The body of the woman found at Long Bay is expected to be identified to-day. Last night, while two constables were guarding the body in the scrub a man was seen creeping towards the spot, but on the constables’ challenge he bolted and escaped, probably in a light motor truck, as the tracks of such a vehicle were traced along the road this morning. A resident close by states that on Saturday night he heard two terrible screams as though from a woman in agony. Aledical examination shows that the wounds on the body are such that they could not possibly be self-inflicted. The body has been identified as that- of Alay Anderson, aged 29 years, a married woman. She had been in gaol several times. It is now established beyond doubt- that she was most brutally murdered. The cause of death was hemorrhage and shock. Death had occurred during the last few days, but it was noli known how long the body bad been in the scrub. Two hundred pounds reward has been offered by the police for the apprehension of the Long Bay murderer. So far no clue to his identity has been discovered.
