TRAMWAY EXTENSIONS.
LOAN PROPOSAL CARRIED, SMALL VOTE RECORDED. The poll on the proposal to borrow £IOO,OOO to be expended on tramway extensions took place on Wednesday, but the number of ratepayers who recorded their votes was a very small proportion of those qualified to go to the polling booths. The following figures state the position : In favour of the loan 1,644 Against the loan 027 Majority for the loan 71? Approximate number qualified to vote ... 16.500 Eighteen informal votes were recorded. The schedule of expenditure is as follows: Line to Forbury Park via Richardson street and Plunket street ... £12,000 Line to Caversham via Wilkie road 5,400 Line to Carisbrook 2,850 Line to Look-out Point from present Caversham Terminus 8,500 Line to Pelichet Bay and Exhibition site (connecting with George street) 27,850 Extension of Mornington main cable line to Kenmure road 18,300 Provision for serving Maori Ilill via Pitt street 13,506 Motor ’bases to be used in ‘Trying out” areas not served by tram line 4,500 Shed and workshop extensions ... ?,!&' £IOO,OOO The money is to be spent over a period of about five years.
