WELLINGTON, May 15. Jtx th.e manslaughter charge against Frank M'Devitt, the driver of the car which knocked down Traffic Inspector Cross, who died from his injuries, Harold Shotlander, a passenger in the car, said the car was racing another on the road from Trentham. At one time on the bitumen track the speedometer showed 45 miles an hour. Lawrence Cummins, anohetr passenger, said he thought the car was going too fast, and appealed to the driver to “cut it out.” They passed dozens of cars. When the car struck Cross it was travelling at from 20 'to 25 miles. After further evidence had been tendered the case was adjourned till Monday.
