OTAGO RAM FAIR.

'ANNUAL AUCTION AT BURNSIDE. LARGE vvtbtfs AND GOOD COMPETITION. More than passing interest was taken in the annual ram fair, which was held at Burnside Saleyards on Thursday. This was to some extent due to the increasing interest being taken in wool-growing, which was prompted by the high prices ruling for wool at the present time. The following is a comparison of entries :

As will bo seen, there was a falling-off in Corriedales, but with that exception all Other breeds were increasingly represented This applied to the Romney March and Border Leicester breeds. The quality gener

ally was somewhat better than last year, and it was noticeable that the competition was keenest for the best quality sheep. Flock rains were in the keenest demand, and this applied most particularly to Romneys, the demand being particularly good for well-built, well-grown, and well-woolled sorts of this breed. Dp to 15igs w 7 as paid for a pen of three one-shear rams, vended by Mr John Lochhead, of Kaitangata. The entry of flock Border Leicesters seemed to be in excess of the demand, and passings were general before the close of the sale. The sale of stud rams was not quite so satisfactory as was that of flock rams. Stud Romneys brought from llgs to 38gs, stud Border Leicesters from 7gs to 16£g9, Corriedales from llgs to 31gs. The top prices for studs were:—Romneys, Mr Adam King (Stony Creek, Balclutha), 38gs; Border Leicesters, Mr. John Miller (Maungatua), 16igs; Corriedales, Mr Leonard White (Rakaia), 31gs. It is difficult to arrive at a reliable range of values, but the following may be generally accepted as something approximating the figures ruling: STUD RAMS.
