OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held on the 27th, and was attended by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mesdames Macdonald. Jackson, Maclie, Messrs Hancock, Scurr, Dove, Quelch, Morgan, and Dr Newlands. The Director-general of Health wrote as to cases of blindness for admission to the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, and asked that all cases of blindness, or partial blindness, be notified.—Medical superintendent to act. The Director-general of Health, writing as to the cost incurred in connection with the quarantining of patients from overseas vessels, stated that this would be borne by the department.—Received. Director-general of Health wrote that the V.D. clinic would be handed over to the board as from March 31. —Received. The Director-general of Health wrote asking that a monthly statement of sanatoria cases be furnished by all boards. The number of beds vacant should be forwarded.— Medical director to report to the Sanatorium Committee. The Union Oil, Soap, and Candle Company intimated that it was prepared to make a donation of soap to each of the board’s institutions. —To be acknowledged with thanks. The Hon. Mark Cohen, forwarded a cheque for £ll2 4s 6d, donations received. He also forwarded a further sum of £SO, given by Mrs I. S. De Beer at a later date.— Received with thanks. The Victoria League forwarded a donation of books and magazines.—Received with thanks.
Mr W. G. Hay wrote forwarding a donation from Mrs Talboys amounting to £175. —Received with thanks.
The University Council wrote acknowledging a letter from the board in which it was stated that the subsidy to the clinical laboratories would be increased from £650 per annum to £BOO, as from April 1. The council was grateful for this, but expressed the opinion that the grant was not adequate.—The council to be informed that the hoard could not make a further grant. Miss M. Mackie wrote resigning her -osilion as matron at the Tapanui Hospital.— Resignation accepted, and the position to be advertised.
The secretary of the Roxburgh Hospital Board wrote forwarding an authority for the withdrawal from the Savings Bank of £666 13s lid and interest due. The following motion had been agreed to: —“That the money that has been collected for the erection of a hospital for the district be handed over to the Otago Board and earmarked for further extensions when necessary.”— Received with thanks.
The Ashburton Board wrote approving of reciprocal agreements between boards -whereby each board agreed to suspend the provisions of section 72 of “The Hospital Boards Act, 1909,” and not debit the other with the maintenance of patients admitted to hospital from other hoards’ districts (except in cases where a patient was sent along for specialist treatment and arrangements made with the board for such treatment). —Received. Dr Gilmour was appointed medical officer at Roxburgh Hospital. The secretary reported the receipt of. further donations to the Radium Fund amounting to £2 7s. The committees’ reports were adopted, and the board then went into committee.
In committee the following tenders were accepted : —For painting the board’s offices. Messrs Wren and Co. ; for painting work at Tuapelca Hospital, the Excelsior Company; and for a concrete tank at Tuapeka Hospital, J. Williams.
