MILITARY PAGEANT.

MEETING OF LADIES’ COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Ladies’ Committee appointed in connection with the proposed military pageant in aid of the War Memorial Fund was held on the 27th in the Town Ilall, the Mayoress (Mrs H. L. Tapley) in the chair. There was a good attendance. Mr 9 Benton undertook to act as secretary. Major Lampen stated that since the la9t meeting the project had been going ahead by leaps and bounds. Every period to be represented in the pageant had now been filled, and all that was wanted was an army of willing workers. The Mayor wanted to raise £SOOO by this means. The Wellington pageant had resulted in a profit of £5600. The Auckland pageant would close on Saturday, and the wardrobes, etc., would be despatched to Dunedin without delay. The badges and tickets would be ready for issuing on April 1, and the programme would be available a few days afterwards. Their first set-back was in ihe fact that Air Roydhouse, physical instructor, who was drilling the children fir the living flag, had sprained his ankle, but (he Minister of Education had very kind'-- given instructions that the chief physical instructor in tho department should come down and take ira the work.—(Applause.) He was confident. that the “undertaking would be a great success, and that on Anzac Day the memorial stone could safely be laid. —(Applause.) On the suggestion of Maior Lampen it was decided to appoint several sub-commit-tocs to carry- out details. Mrs Carmalt Jones suggested that, when the wardrobes, etc., were received, parties of ladies should be organised to go through them to see what alterations were necessary and make any necessary repairs. Mrs Leech thought that in this matter they should not overlook Mrs O’Neill, mistress of the wardrobes, who might wish to appoint her own staff. Several ladies volunteered to make sweets and provide receptacles for them. Major Lampen said tjsat. the Hillside Workshops had very >7ndly offered the assistance of their brigade Tho full strength of their ambulance brigade would also be available.

Mr D. H. Hastings renorted that he had just attended a meeting of the Tramping Olub, at which it was decided that the young ladies would assist in selling programmes and in other ways. It was further resolved that the young ladies, under Mrs Balk’s presidency, should supply a tent at which sweets, ices, and soft drinks would be sold. The male members had promised to help in selling tickets and programmes, and also in keeping the gates clear. —(Applause.) Several other details having been arranged the meeting closed.
