FLOODS IN RANGARIRI
BIG AREA INUNDATED. AUCKLAND, July 10. Floods are being experienced at Rangiriri where the Waikato River has overflowed its banks. The store and Post Office combined is practically surrounded, and it is only possible to get by boat from the building to the river. The road to the station is practically impassible for motors. The water is rising at Mercer, increasing about three and a-half inches on Monday, and that night many square miles were under water, tne depth ranging from a few inches to severe, feet. No stock losses or serious damage is reported, but further rain may make the conditions serious. A barge, containing 90 sacks of coal, was washed away from its moorings at Firth’s Pumice Mill, Ohinewai, and has not been seen since.
