BLAZE AT BLUFF. The disastrous fire which destroyed the Shaw, Savili, and Albion Co.’s stores at Bluff on Wednesday caused damage to the extent of between £40,000 and £60,000 (reports yesterday’s Southland Times). Though no official information is yet available, it is stated that a large number of the local mercantile houses had stocks of wool and grain in the stores waiting shipment, but that in every case these were covered by the insurance companies. rAHIATUA, July 12. Ihe Makuri Hotel was totally destroyed by fire at about, midnight. The supposed cause was a defective chimney. The building, which contained 26 rooms, was owned by Messrs Dwan Bros., and the licensee was Mr N. Woods. The insurances are not available.

NAPIER, July 12. At 1 o’clock to-day a fire in a shop occupied by the New Zealand ’Trawling Companv in the heart of the town caused some excitement. The brigade soon had the outbreak in hand, but the building was gutted.
