Alwnro, and the Mayor of Queenstown (Mr \ Simeon), waited on (ho Alinister of Railways this morning, and asked that weekend excursion fares between Dunedin and Queenstown and Invercargill and Queenstown. which were abolished several years ago. be restored. The fares formerly applied from Saturday to Wednesday of every week from November till March inclusive, and ranged from 12s 6d second class single from Dunedin and correspondingly less from Invercargill. The deputation stated than under the cheap fares large numbers of city people, with their children, made ihe ti-i n in summer time, and gained much benefit. Even if the restored excursion fares were rather higher than the old rates, the concession would he welcome. The Alinister said he regarded the matter as very important.
