The conference did not think that there was a strong probability of giving the dominions direct preference on produce and raw material. The OUI Country had built up industries ott cheap production, and the whole feeling of the country was that i he marketing cost* should be kept down. If duties were placed on foodstuffs it would raise the cost of living, resulting it: increased wages aid c-ost of production. the speaker did not think the country would stand this, and soma ether way must l>e found. From informa tion in his possession he assured then* ilia! the will to give what they sough® existed, and the people of Great Britain were anxious to find some wav to meet New Zealand without imposing actualduties on food-tuffs.
