FEARS FOR SIR H. SAMUEL’S SAFETY. LONDON, June 11. Advices from Jerusalem state that British gendarmerie, while returning from escorting the High Commissioner (Sir Herbert Samuel), were ambushed on Sunday near the Syrian frontier. Three were killed and three wounded. The assailants are presumably Bedouin brigands. It is understood that there is considerable anxiety in official quarters regarding the safety of Sir Herbert Samuel, who is camping with an escort of native gendarmerie. POLITICAL SITUATION CONFUSED. LONDON, June 14. The Daily Express’s correspondent at Jerusalem reports that all the members of the High Commissioner’s Advisory Council have resigned, leaving only two Jewish members. When the Arabs boycotted the elections for the Legislati ve Council in Palestine it was announced that the Legislative Council would be suspended, and a nominated Advisory Council would be established consisting of eight 3loslems, two Christians, and two Jews. Sir Herbert Samuel (High Com missioner) announced on June 1 that a meeting of the Council would be held at an early date. Meantime he journeyed to Safed Outallah, and is now returning to Jerusalem, having reached Haifa.
