DISASTROUS FIRE.

HIGH SCHOOL DESTROYED. TAUAIARUNUI, May 26. At 8 o’clock last night an outbreak of fine was discovered in the District Iligti School buildings. The brigade was quickly on the scene, but the flames already had a good hold of the building, which is one of the oldest wooden structures in the town. The fire was subdued after two hours’ strenuous work, but the major portion of the. building was badly gutted. The cause is unknown. The library books and a quantity o r stationery and desks were saved, together with tiie science room equipment. Everything was in order when the rector locked up the school at 5 o’clock. The insurances are not available.
