When the Midland train was passing near the deviation site of the first wash-out beyond Springfield a coal truck between the two engines left the rails. A large number of men who were working on the deviation were promptly summoned and the truck was jacked up and replaced. The train moved off slowly, and a large rock slipned down and fell across the line. The train was pulled up b fore any damage was done. The boulder was soon removed. 'Hie grade at the deviation has been much improved in the last 10 days, but the cutting is narrow, the carriage steps just clearing the shingle bank.
