Tho possibility of the early development of the iron sand deposits of Taranaki was foreshadowed at the meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council (says the Taranaki Daily News), when an inquiry was received through the Mines Department from Mr R. C. V. Whitfield, of Redcar, Yorkshire, for quotations for the supply of electric power for the purposes of a steel-making plant. The letter added that Mr Whitfield was preparing a statement dealing with a steel process that he considered particularly applicable to New Zealand. The council decided to forward the quotations asked for.
