OTAGO ROWING ASSOCIATION.

CARNIVAL REGATTA. SOUTHLAND REGAINS EDMOND SHIELD. The annual carnival regatta promoted by the Otago Rowing Association was held on Friday in weather conditions that could not be described as favourable to the sport. Nevertheless there was a fair gathering of interested spectators on the Kitchener street wharf, where t.he various races finished, and a good deal of interest was manifested in the proceedings. Several heavy showers which fell during the afternoon were accompanied by a fairly strong south-west wind, and these had the effect of making the water rather choppy. On the other hand, some of the events were rowed in smooth water, especially towards the close of the regatta, The regatta was entirely confined to rowing races, and some excellent sport was provided, the rowing being of t high standard, and there being several close and exciting finishes. The principal event of the day, the Interprovincial Fours for the Edmond Challenge Shield, was won by Southland after a fairly easy victory by eight lengths. The trophy was won by the Otago representatives at Invercargill last year, but on the present occasion the Awarua senior tour proved a very colid proposition, and regained possession for the shield, which has now been won 15 time 3 by Southland and four times by Qtago. The winning crew in this event was also successful in the Senior Fours, and Dawson and Roes, two of the members of the crew, also won the last race of the day—the Senior Pairs The following are the results: INTERPROVINCIAL FOURS.
