At a meeting in Wellington it was decided to form a New Zealand Veterinary Surgeon's Association. The rateable value of property in Dunedin for 1923-24 is given as ±.876,790, an increase of £32,653 over last year. About £1730 has been sent to Europe from New Zealand to assist embarrassed students in Central Europe. The New Zealand Farmers’ Union purpose handing over to tile Senate of the University of New Zealand £l5B 12s, the surplus of the Sir J. G. Wilson Testimonial Fund to be devoted to giving an annual prize to encourage students to take up the course for !1) e degree of Bachelor of Science. Canterbury University College will celebrate its jubilee in May next. The Times (London), in a leading article, urges that the Premiers’ Conference should meet in 1924, when a common policy as regards foreign affairs could be agreed upon. There was a heavy rainfall in Blenheim and surrounding districts on the 15th inst. Considerable damage was done at Picton. Two slips on the railway were soon cleared away. Traffic was blocked for some time on the Picton Blenheim road which was under water. Heavy rain also fell in North Canterbury. At a representative gathering of shipping men at a luncheon on board the s.s, Ruapehu a presentation in recognition of the services rendered at the wreck of the Wiltshire was made to Mr Thomas Bowling, chief officer of the Katoa, now on the Maunganui, by the directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The presentation was made on behalf of the directors by the Prime Minister (Mr W. F. Massey.) Mr Bowling was at the same time presented with a letter by Lord Jellicoe eulogising the fine leadership of Mr Bowling at the wreck, and the endurance shown by him in rescuing the crew of the Wiltshire.
