FIGHTING STRENGTH COMPARED. LONDON, December 23. The Air Ministry announces that the present strength of fighting and bombing machines in Great Britain is 32 squadrons, and in France 128 squadrons. Britain having 384 aeroplanes and France 1152. SLR KEITH SMITH’S PREPARATIONS. WASHINGTON. December 22. Sir Keith Smith, who is consulting American aviation experts concerning the Alaskan end of his proposed world flight, spent a considerable time with Captain St. Clare Street, who commanded a flight to Rome through the western Canar dian provinces. PILOT’S LUCKY ESCAPE. SYDNEY, December 23. Hordern’s hydroplane, which had just returned f rom Hurley’s Expedition to Papua, dipped from a height of 10ft into Sydney Harbour and sank. The pilot waa submerged, but the plane tipped for a moment, enabling him to release his seal belt and escape.
