j. ile rapid spread of blackberry and the best methods of keeping- it in cheek were under discussion at the Supreme Court at iN'ew Plymouth recently. The consensus of opinion among the farmers giving evidence in the case before the court was that the best time to cut the pest was in January, when the sap was right up, and that it should be cut right to the ground with a scythe.
