EMPIRE TRADE
SIR ALFRED MOND'S PROPOSALS. LONDON, October 27. Sir Alfred Mond (who was a member of the Coalition Cabinet) lias supplied the Daily Chronicle with details of an Empire trade development scheme, which he submitted to Air Lloyd George’s Cabinet. He says that some steps in this direction under the Trade Facilities Act had been taken, but he thought a bolder scheme was needed; therefore, he suggested the promotion of a loan of £50,000,000 or £100,000,000, to he guaranteed by the Imperial Exchequer, the proceeds to be used to enable the Crown colonies, par ticularly Africa, to develop their resources. Sir Alfred Alond pointed out that the unemployed in Great Britain were costing nearly £100,000,000 yearly. He says the above scheme would do much to .alleviate unemployment in Britain, and at the same time it would develop the resources of the Crown colonies, especially tlie former Ger man possessions.
