CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS. TIMARU, October 25. The Timaru A. and P. Show was opened yesterday in fine though cold, windy weather. The entries art a few short of last year, but the quality is well up to the standard. Following are the principal results : Champions.—Merino ram and ewe, F. 11. Holland (Timaru),; Border I.eiccster ram and ewe, Donald Grant (Timaru); Lincoln ram and ewe, Isaac Andrew (Waihao Downs); Romney Marsh ram, Donald Grant; ewe, John Grigg (Longbeach) ; Shropshire Downs, ram, Cochrane Bros. (Ashburton): ewe, Rupert Parry; Southdowns, ram and ewe, John Grigg; Rvelands, ram and ewe, B. Withel (Baling); Corriedales, ram and ewe, Isaac Andrew. Shorthorns. —Cow. C. Bernard Tripp (Timaru): registered Ayrshire cow and bull, Andrew Grant ( \llandale. Fairlie). •Sheep Dog Trial. —J. Aitken, Gordon’s Valley, " PEOPLE’S DAY. TIMARU. October 26. People’s Day at, limaru Show brought a-'big gathering from all parts of South Canterbury to-day, tho weather being line, but a howling nor’-wester made conditions unpleasant. Following are the principal results Clydesdale Horse Society’s medal. W. J. Doak’s (Ashburton) Peggy Nomria; champion entire horse, J. R. Patrick’s (Outram) High Admiral; champion mare, J. R. Patrick. Ponies. —11. S. Kyle’s Firefly. Blood Horses. —A. F. Stocker’s St. Petersburg. Harness Horses. —H. S. Kyle’s Lady Lonely. Saddle Horse. —D. Gillander’s White Heather. Best Jumper on the Ground.—J. H. Grigg’s Rubicoa. Rhodes Hunt Challenge Cup for Team of Three Qualified Hunters. —South Canterbury Hunt No. 1 team 1: South Canterbury Hunt No. 2,2. The Christchurch and Waimate Hunts also competed. Tho cup is accompanied by a cash prize of £35. The prize for the best lady rider at the show was awarded to Miss Margaret Elworthy. An initial auction sale of pedigree rattle, held in connection with the show, was a great success. The top price of 80 guineas was obtained for a yearling Jersey bull, which was bought by Mr D. Wright, of Palmerston.
