ARBITRATION COURT, WELLINGTON. August 19. Seamen's and firemen's wages and conditions on the New Zealand coastal trade were further discussed in the Arniti at ion Court to-day. Mr Kenneth MT.ean, manager of the Richardson Shipping Company, gave further evidence, stating that when lightering, and when no crew was on hoard, th© men in the stokehold got watersiders* rates. Mr Nicholson, representing the employers, stated before tlie Arbitration Court to-day that the conference held .at Napier between the Sheep Owners’ Association and the Shearers’ Union had proved abortive. The shearers took the attitude that they were not preparerl to accept less than last years rates. Air Nicholson asked the court to fix an early date for the hearing of the dispute at. Wellington.
