SHEEP DOG NOTES.

The Waitaki Collie Dog Club’s trials, whieh were held last week at Txakatai ameu, appear to have been very popular. Ine entries numbered 115 for the three events as compared with 92 last year. Nearly all the competing dogs were owned by residents of the adjacent districts, the onlyvisitors who had entries being Messrs R, Anderson (Kauana, Southland) and G. Keefe (Burke’s Pass). There was a fairly good attendance of enthusiasts, who followed the proceedings with keen interest and who liberally applauded any good work. The work done on the hill was good, but there was room for a fair amount of improvement. Some of the best dogs lost points owing to the difficulty- in handling the sheen. The liberation of the sheep was in the hands of Mr W. Fraser and some assistants, who had a strenuous, task at thrifts. Some of the sheep wore very difficult to handle, and on three or four occasions they broke away in spite of all the efforts to hold them. Everything went smoothly, and very good progress was made, the officials from the president downwards doing everything possible to promote the success of the gathering. The judging was in the capable hands of Mr J. Anderson, of O.tematata, whose decisions appeared to give universal satisfaction. Subjoined are the results : Class IT.—TTuntawav and Slew.
