THE DAIRY POOL
LONDON, May 11. A large and representative meeting of the provision trade section of the London Chamber of Commerce discussed New Zealand’s proposed dairy pool. The opinion Generally expressed was that pools were generally inimical to the interests of the producers. The discussion was adjourned for a fortnight. May 13. Replying to the cabled letter, other importers of New Zealand produce signing themselves “The Majority,” write that the only difference of opinion is whether the creation of a compulsory pool is best or in the producers’ best interests, and only hope that it will secure economies and greater efficiency in the distribution of New Zealand produce. It may be that the five correspondents, as agents or promoters of the pool, feel themselves safeguarded as regards supplies, but no satisfactory assurance lias been offered to the rest of the trade, who are naturally loth to inn the risk of scrapping an organisatinn in deference to the wishes of the promoters of a compulsory pool, who may find themselves unable to carry out effectively all the good intentions with which they are at present animated.
