ALLEGED ASSAULT.

AUCKLAND, April 24. As the outcome of a co 'stable being injured in endeavouring in arrest two men on March 4 last, AA’iliiam Nathaniel Ramplin (36) was charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty and with having caused Constable M'Kav grievous bodily harm. 'lhe constable is still weak, and is obviously suffering from the after-effects of severe concussion. Accused stated that he had no recollection of the assault. An eye-witness said the accused appeared to be fairly under the influence of drink. Accused pleaded rot guilty, and was committed for trial.

“It costs 21>d per lb to shear, transport, and sell wool at present,” stated the organising secretary at the ordinary meeting of the Eketabuna branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
