FREEZING WORKS EMPLOYEES

STRIKEDS FINED. GISBORNE. April 27. Ninety-six summonses against the freezing works employees of the Poverty Bay Meat Company, in connection yvith ine strike that occurred at ihe works on March 16, were heard this morning before Mr Barton, S.M. Twenty-three of the cases were struck out on the ground that the defendants had not participated in the strike. In the remainder of the eases the Labour Department claimed the full penalty under the Act (£10), but did not press for it on the defendants admitting the offences. Each was fined £2 and 5s costs.
