FIRE AT HASTINGS

HASTINGS. April 29. Early this morning a fire broke out in James M‘Laughlin s fruit shop, in Heretaunga street. It was completely gutted, and the fire spread through the ceilings to Joseph’s restaurant on the one side and to Dunkley’s tailor shop on the other. The restaurant and its contents were practically destroyed, and Dunkley’s shop was badly damaged, and the stocks ruined. The insurances are: —M'Laughlin, £350 in the Australian Alliance; Dunkley’s £6OO in the British Traders; Joseph’s £325 in the Yorkshire. C. Hughes, the owner of the buildings, is covered by the Guardian Office, but the amount is not ascertainable.
