SYDNEY, April 22. colt by St. Alwyne—Pretty Volody, by Volodyovski, was purchased by H. C. Bryant at Randwick for 1700gns; a. colt by Magpie, from Welkin mare, by D. Buffier for SOOgns; colt by Magpie, from Nancy Sykes, by S. Bi-unton (Victoria) for 675gn>s; and a filly by Valais, from Lady Childwick, by S. Killivk, trainer of Beauford, for 825gns. April 24. At the yearling sales on account Mr lan Duncan, of Waikanae, a colt, half-brother to Kiliowen, by Boniform—Success, realised 750 gs; a filly, sister of Kilfoyle, by Kilbroney— Rosyth, brought 180 gs; on account Mr F. Reid, Oamaru, a Solferino—Ailsa filly was sold for 150 gs; on .account Mr W. G. Stead, Hastings, a Feramorz—Gold Painting filly, brought 50gs, ar.d a Feramorz—Blended colt, 65gs; on account Mr R. C. Gillies, New Zealand . a Sunny Lake —Nithsevo filly realised 140 gs. Mr A. G'. Hill, New Zealand, purchased an Eaton Lad—Formicary filly for UOgs. The yearling sales just concluded realised approximately £98,080. April 28. The thoroughbred sales were continued yesterday on account of Mr lan Duncan (Waikanae). Ten brood mares realised 1810gns. The top price was 300gns for Blue Grass. Others ranged from 70gns to 270gns, including 210gns each for Ribble Merry and Margaret Skirl, and 27(>gns for Samniform. On account of Mr J. F. Reid (Oamaru) five realised 630gns, the top price (210gns) being given for Judaea. On account of Mr T. Hi Lowery (Hawke’s Bay), Belfry realised 310gns and Quote 140gns. Mr J. Rutherford purchased the racehorse Kashmir for 950gns.

SALE OF THOROUGHBRED MARES, FILLIES AND GELDINGS. It is announced in our advertising columns this week that owing to the expiry of the lease of his stud farm, Mr Bruce Christie will hold a clearing sale o.n Friday, June 2, of SO thoroughbred mares, fillies; geldings, foals, and the sire Kilkain. The sale will be conducted by Messrs Donald Reid and Co., of Dunedin. A catalogue is being prepared, and when this comes to hand further reference will be made to the opportunity offered to buyers.

THE TOT ALISATO R RETURNS. SYDNEY, April 23. The totalisator turnover during the four days of the Randwick meeting amounted to £319,507, as compared with £280,843 for the previous year. The attendance totalled 240,000. JOCKEYS’ ASSOCIATION. APPEAL AGAINST MAGISTRATE’S DECISION. CHRISTCHURCH. April 28. An appeal by the New Zealand Jockeys’ Association against the decision of Mr J. E. Wilson, S.M., in its claim against Geo. Young, a jockey, for £4l membership fees was heard by Mr Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court to-day. It was stated that the magistrate dismissed the claim on the grounds that as defendant was a minor the only contracts enforceable against him were for necessaries and membership of the plaintiff association was not necessary to him. Argument ensued as to whether a contract was of benefit to a minor. Judgment was reserved. REMARKABLE RECORD. LONDON, April 29. Monarch established a remarkable record, running second in the Lincolnshire and City and Suburban Handicaps, and in to-day’s \ ictoria Gup, which was won by Yellow Dwarf, with Varzy third.
