FROZEN PORK
NO AIARKET AT HOME WELLINGTON, January 24. The following statement has been issued by the Alinister of Agriculture:— “ The Department of Agriculture has been making inquiries regarding the possibility of a market for frozen pork in Great Britain, and in this connection a cablegram has just been received from the High Commissioner in the following terms: ‘ln reply to your telegram of January 12, the current prices for frozen pork range from 5d for very heavy carcases up to Sd for the very best quality light porkers. New Zealand at the moment is estimated to be worth at about as follows: Under 801 b, 9d; 801 b, to 1101 b, 8d; over 1101 b, from 7jd downwards. The best weight to suit the market for the pork trade is under 1001 b, and for the bacon trade between 1301 b and 1801 b. The tendency of the market is downwards, and prices are expected to fall owing to plentiful supplies of Dutch and to the fact that the number of pigs in England and Wales has been on the increase since 1911, showing an increase of 25 per cent, over last year. The demand for frozen' porkers has been limited for some time past, and it is not expected that much demand will exist for bacon pigs. In any case, there is no market for frozen pork whatever between Alarch, April, and September.’ ’’
