THE NEW HEBRIDES

SYDNEY", January 23. The Rev. Mr Bowie, principal of the Tongan Training College, is visiting Sydney-. In a speech dealing with the New Hebrides he declared that, miserable as the condominium arrangement was, he preferred it to French control. He accused some of the French residents of participating in grog-selling and kidnapping French officials. The latter did not regulate their nationals, but their nationals ruled them, and had them removed and replaced at their pleasure. If only the F rench administration would investigate the charges and rectify the known abuses the condominium would work. SYDNEY, January 25. Speaking at a missionary reception, the Rev. Mr Patterson said : “We need prohibition in the New Hebrides, because although the law prohibits the sale of liquor to the natives, it is sold openly."
