OAMARTJ MARKETS. (From Our Own Cot*respondent.) OANIAUU, October 1. Though, under the stimulus of ample moisture and some warmth, there has been a good growth of gras 3 no effect has been produced on the stock market, which continues exceedingly slow. Sheep are clearly not wanted, for, outside of the sale of a couple of pens disposed of at the weekly market, no transaction in that description of stock has been reported charing the week. Cattle have been in c. somewhat better position so far as some classes are concrened. But stores do not meet with any favour, and at this week’s sale tw>ycar-old steers went at 40s and 1 wo-year-old heifers at 35 s, the condition of the animals being fairly good in both < ices. Privately no sales have been made. A 1 ino cl medium-weight fat bullocks was disposed of privately at £l2. The demand for dairy stock, which had been active for some weeks, has now come to a stop, at any rate in the meaii'inie, and prices are a little lower. At the weekly sale there was an exceptionally large yarding, but the greater part of the animals were in low condition and. went at small prices. Good cows at profit, however, reached up t-o £l4 os, -and tire best of the heifers touched £7 10s. Since then few sales have been made, and the prices realised for revs coining to profit have been up to £l2 for good quality, £8 to £lO for medium to good, and £4 to £G for aged!.
