Another amazing tribute to the egg-producing qualities of Karswood Poultry Spice (containing ground insects) At first glance it seems impossible for four hens to pay the rent, even in England. But—arter having- gone carefully into the matter with Mr. Wood we are quite convinced that his statement is perfectly true, and we feel sure you will be if you (Will read his letter in full below. The present bred-to-lay strains of fowls, when fed on Poultry Meal and Karswood Poul•i try Spice (containing ground insects) give results which are as much better than those of the barn-door rowls of twenty years ago as the present cinema films are better than the faulty flickering “apologies” of 1904, or the present - day motor car than the doubtful machines of 20 years ago. Mr. W. Wood. The poultry industry has moved forward just as much during the last twenty years as the motor car Industry or the cinema industry; and we, or the Karswood Corppany, are proud to have been able, by means of our Karswood Poultry Spice, to have added at least one spoke to this wheel or poultry-keeping progress. We live by service—thus the sales of "Karswood” continue to grow, and it has HOW won a place in the affection of poullryfceepers of which we may he pardoned for feeling more-than-a-little proud. Four Hans Paid Hi 3 Rant. , 344, Green I.anes, Smallheath, Birmingham. I should be glad if you will send me your hook, entitled, “Fortunes from Eggs,” for which I enclose postal order and sincerely hope you have not sold out Of sariic. I have used your Karswood poultry Spice for the last three years, and have not found anything to equal it, both for rearing and laying, and I might add I have tried several other spices; but now my order Is always “Karswood" Poultry Spice. I am only a back-yarder, hut have had very good results; one pen of White Wyandottes, four in number, paid my rent all last year, and I attribute same to Karswood Poultry Spice. I have -been a poultry' rearer in a small way for the last twelve years, hut I have never had the success in the first nine years that I have had in the last three years while using Karswood Spice. Balance Sheet. Receipts. £ s. d. 981 eggs at 4d each 16 7 0 .12 sittings of eggs or 1 dozen at 12/6 per sitting 7 16 0 £23 17 0 Expenses. For food at 6d per week each bi'd 5 4 0 Profit £lB 13 0 Rent of house for year at 6/9 a week (I was then living In Victoria Road) £l7 11 0 So the profit was enough to pay the rent of the house I was living in, and leave a balance, over of £1 2/-. I might say that for the above season eggs were very dear in my district, and all through the winter months there was a steady demand at Gd, and even 6id each. How the Birds Were Fed. I feed in the morning with a little grain In the litter, which I vary according to the weather. In very cold weather I give maize, but when the weather becomes milder I give wheat one day and oats the next day, and so on alternately. SECOND FEED I give about noon. I scald some clover meal and bran together, adding the required quantity of Karswood Poultry Spice, and then dry oil' with Poultry Meal. THIRD FEED (before the birds go to roost) I give grain again. I have tried dry mash feeding, but do not care for it. In my opinion there is only one thing In its favour, and that is it is easy to feed for anyone that does not like work. I may say I reared my birds from the shell in a box made by myself, with hotwater bottles for heat, and have never lost a chick. I bought them as day-old chirks. Previous to 1918 I had never reared chickens on Karswood, and the deaths were never less than one chick in every four, and I might add that whatever you or anyone else may attribute. It to, I can only attribute my good result to Karswood Poultry Spire, not only In reducing mortality to nil, but in the egg yield as well. How the Birds Were Housed. Tlie four While Wyandottes which paid my rent were kept In an open-fronted house with no shutters, and it was kept open all winter. The size of the house was 6ft long by 4ft Oin wide, and sft high. The run was 4 yards long by 3 yards wide. Should these particulars not he sufficient I will gladly forward further details, as I would add again that my success is entirely due to Karswood. I am thinking of going abroad to Canada in the autumn, as my little girl needs a dry climate. I intend to go in for farming and poultry raising, of course in a small way at first. Is it possible to purchase your Karswood Spice over there, or should I have to have it direct from England? I would not like to be in the poultry business without it. Julyß, 1920. (Signed) W. WOOD. Bj Eggs per Bird per week—Winter Included. 20, Croydon Grove, West Croydon. With one exception (a White Leghorn, 1919, pullet) my pen is made up of two, three, and four-year-old birds. They are, I will agree, from one of the best laying strains in the country, but the egg yield from these birds has truly been remarkable during the past nine months, for their average works out to 5J eggs per bird per week, and this includes part of the winter period and up to date. My three months’ and 14 weeks’ old pullets are a picture, and I am proud of them. The birds receive careful attention, have good food, and regularly have Karswood Poultry Spice in their sort food, to which I attribute their general good health, splendid condition, and consistency in laying. in me you have a true “Karswood.” disciple. July 8, 1920. A. WILLIAMSON. Used on H.M. the King’s Poultry Farm at Windsor, England. The sales of Karswood Poultry Sptce are several times greater than the sales of all other Poultry Spices and Poultry Powders on the English market put together, and New Zealand poultrykeepers can rest assured that it is the best the “Old Country” has to offer them.
