Steeplechase with which the Birchwood Hunt closed this winter’s hunting season took place on Wednesday last at Winton. An excellent- course was laid out starting near the Awarua Dairy Factory, taking in three road doubles and two water pumps and finishing on the V inton racecourse. Air Arthur Gerrard officiated as starter and after tile races Air Arthur Liddell, president of the Birchwood Hum, presented the owners of the winners of the two steeplechases (Messrs T. Wallis •and J. Langford) with the silver cup subscribed by the Winton members of the hunt. The wharf at the Bluff has been fairly well filled during the week.
