TURKEY AND GREECE.
GREEK OFFENSIVE COMMENCED. LONDON, August 8. The second phase of the Greek offensive in Asia Minor commenced with an attack north of I.eftke. The Turks are outnumbered and are retiring. The struggle promises to be long and bloody, and the Greeks’ task is becoming more difficult as they advance. The losses in the Into fighting are unknown, but probably are fairly equal on both sides. Turkish deserters are constantly surrendering. In consequence of the Turkish attacks upon foreigners on the Asia Minor coast, Greek warships bombarded Trebizond, Samsun. and other ports. The effect is unknown. KEMALISTS TOTALLY CRUSHED. ATHENS. August 11. Semi-official: The War Minister, reviewing the military position, said that the Kemalist army had been totally crushed, and was no longer of military importance. Regarding peace he said that Greece did not want to repeat past niistalfes, and would demand guarantees against, the enemy attacking Greece again, and also to secure the liberated populations from further oppression. The newspapers state that the general staff decided that the territories outside the delimitation of the Turkish Treaty should be placed under an independent military administration under Greek laws. PROTEST TO ANGORA GOVERNMENT. LONDON, August 11. Tlie Allied and American Commissioners nt Constantinople have decided to protest strongly to the Angora Government against the deportation of Greeks and other Christians from the coast of the Black Sen.
