INSURANCE AGAINST PILLAGE.
Yt TILLINGT OX. August 5. Insurance against pillage has busied tho minds of shipowners and shippers for a long time, and many times tho question lias been discussed in law courts. Mr A. W. Blair, counsel for a defendant shipping company ut tf:-' Supreme Conn, said that one of the duel difficulties winch arose was that merchants and others were very unwilling to specify packages as of special value, but should t he.se packages be pillaged, t bt*y were very wining to claim special damages. Unless the packages were specified as being of special vUe, i romp.i hes admitted liability to the extent of £lO per cubic foot, with a maximum of £2OO per package in the event of pillage. Tf a merchant wished higher insurance, lie should bo agreeable to pay higher freight.
