RAMA IN A HURRICANE.

WELLINGTON, August 5. An exceptionally rough trip Horn the Chathams was experienced by tho steamer Rama, which reached here this morning. Owing to heavy southerly gales at the Islands, the Rama was unable to load a full cargo of fish, and left behind several passengers. The starboard cable parted while at Waifungi, and tho vessel left Mangaroa at 3 on Sunday afternoon in a strong northwesterly gale. 'ihe boat, began to roll, and pitched heavily. There were similar conditions next day, and then tho gale increased to a hurricane on Thursday. At 12.45 a.m. the Castlepoint light was sighted, and the master sought shelter at Teawaiti, and with two anchors out rode out tho hurricane. At 4.30 he continued the voyage to Wellington.
