THE HOUSING PROBLEM. LONDON, Ju:y 14. In the House of Commons Sir \. MondJ (Minister of Health) outlined the reductions in the housing subsidies. He said that 176,C00 houses had now been approved. the annual cost of which to tho State was £15,000,030. The Government therefore had-decided to limit the subsidies to this 176,000. Owing to the Government’s abandonment of the housing schemes. Dr C. Addison hr.« resigned from the Government-, declaring that the solemn pledges to th® people and the (lovcrnment’s obligations to local authorities have been net rayed. Mr Lloyd George, replying, says that the financial situation forced the Government to cry a halt to it; housing plans. The Labour Party, following on Dr C. Addison s resignation, tabled a motion of censure on the ground that the intention of the Government to curtail its financial obligations was a gross breach of faith, bringing the Parliament into contempt. The Daily News understands that as the result of a leading article in Wednesday’s l imes alleging personal disqualifications by Mr Lloyd George and Lord Curzon as representative of Great Britain at the Washington Conference, both the Foreign Office and the Prime Minister’s secretary have broken off relations with all the Northclifie papers, and .efuse to give those papers any information. TREASURY RONDS. The London Stock* Exchange has been officially notified that dealings in new treasury bonds will not be permitted till further notice. Discussion is proceeding between the British Treasury and the Stock Exchange relating to the former’s desire not to permit Stock Exchange dealings in the new Treasury bonds, the prospectus of which is now issued. It is expected that dealings will be permitted after July 26, the closing date of the conversion.
