ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The regular meeting of the Council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held on -the 27th, and was attended by Messrs C x . W. MTntosh (president), Cowie, C. A. Wilson, Robinson, Conn, Cousins, Rutherford, Long, A. E. Jenkins, Baker, C. fe. Jenkins, and Reid. The Chairman, in referring to strychnine poisoning of rabbits, stated that Mr Cowie had sfMin Mr Snowball, and the latter had seen him (the chairman), and had .stated that the department had n-ot recommended the U3e of poisoned grain, but there was a strict instruction that the rabbits must b©

exterminated. The strychnine poisoning- had been found the best that could be used. He ; (the chairman) thought that the method to : adopt was to put an advertisement in the paper asking property owners to keep poison : off their places where there were ducks and quail.—Members of the council concurred in. this view. Tlie Game Committee recommended that the number of deer stalking licenses to blocks from No. 10 upwards be increased; that next season stalkers be allowed to take two heads only; that stalkers be asked to cull old end malformed deer, and also hinds; that the stalking fee be £5 for a license. I Applications for blocks to be in not later j than August 16, and that the president and -dr Conn be authorised to issue a letter to stalkers.—Adopted. The Angling Committee recommended that Mr W. M’Cciniochie’s request for young trout for the Duns tan Creek and Mnnuherikia Rivers be noted in .the meantime. —Adopted. The following committees were elected: Game Committee—Messrs C. P. M.
