ACTION I’OR DAMAGES. WELLINGTON, June 20. In the Magistrate's Court, Patrick L. Doherty took action against the .Federated Cooks and Stewards’ Ciiion of New Zealand to recover £96 18 s. The plaintiff alleged iliar when he was about to be engaged as a steward on. the Tahiti. E. Kennedy. the union secretary, intimated to the Union Steam Ship Company that plaintiff should not he employed. Plaintiff contended that Kennedy’s action was illegal and unjustifiable. Tie (plaintiff) had been fined Is [or net attending a union meeting, and consequent cm Ins lefusing to pay the line, he had been prevented from signing on on the Tahiti. For the defence, it was stated that there was no question of malice. It was essential that members should make themselves financial. Doherty had not dona so, whereas other members of the crew had. The question of a fine was not involved. Decision \\ as reserved.
