FALSE PRETENCES.
AUCKLAND, May 50. Leslie Murray, ship’s fireman, was charged with having obtained £-10 by false pretences from Margaret Isobel Wilson, a widow. The latter advertised in the matrimonial columns of tho papers, and Murray replied, representing himself as an ox-naval officer who had been court-martialled aril dk-ohavged on a charge of hanging a German submarine officer after the while flag was hoisted. He met Mrs Wilson and obtained from her £4O, then going to Wellington, where he was arrested. It was discovered he was a married man, who had never been in the .navy, but was •'in the coa.-'-a!
