The Wellington Post states that a startling demonstration of the power of a rifle was given at Newtown a few days ago, and the correspondent ’-'ho describes it asks whether in the public interest Cadets should, be permitted to take their rifles Ik mo with them or should have acres? to ammunition. Ihe writer states that a Cadet, experimenting with bis rifle, put a cartridge in it and accidentally discharged it. The bullet, went through the walls of the house and into another, penetrating altogether nine pa nitons or doors. It lodged at last in tho kitchen of the neighbouring boose, at a point where only a moment before a ladv with a baby in her arms had been standing. The correspondent adds: “Tt reduces tlicir vitality, and leaves them no power of re.-i-lance to other diseases. This, no doubt, accounts for the terribly high d-ath-rate in tho influenza epidemic of 1918.”
